The wolf is rendered in silver powder and layers of white, light blue, and bluish-purple lacquer. Its eye is accented with Raden, or mother-of-pearl, creating a sharp point of light against the otherwise quiet, monochromatic landscape.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eFor Wolf Moon, Namiki combined several of Namiki’s celebrated decorative techniques to create depth throughout the winter scene. The wolf, cliff, trees, and delicate plants are expressed through Hira Maki-e, while Togidashi Maki-e is used throughout the starry sky and background to create the atmosphere of a cold winter night. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eRaden adds flashes of light to the composition, most notably in the wolf’s eye and in the background of the trees, while silver powder carries across the pen to connect the moon, landscape, and sky. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe restrained palette is an important part of the design. Rather than relying on vivid color, Wolf Moon is built around silver, black, white, and cool-toned lacquer.
