David Oscarson Route 66- Fountain Pen - Rollerball

Created in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Route 66, the David Oscarson Route 66 Collection pays tribute to the freedom, optimism, and spirit of discovery associated with America’s most legendary highway. Established in 1926, Route 66 stretched 2,448 miles from Chicago to Santa Monica, crossing Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California.

Known as “America’s Main Street” and later immortalized as “The Mother Road,” Route 66 became an essential path westward during the 1930s and an enduring symbol of American travel and adventure. Its roadside diners, filling stations, motor lodges, neon signs, and sweeping landscapes helped shape a uniquely American culture centered on the open road.

The artistry of this collection captures that history in remarkable detail. The cap and barrel feature David Oscarson’s signature multi-level engraving, combining a smooth, opaque asphalt-inspired roadway with shimmering guilloché patterns beneath layers of translucent vitreous hard enamel. Each of the eight states along the historic route is represented by a distinctive guilloché pattern, outlined in high relief.

Intricate engravings of Art Deco diners, vintage gas pumps, hotels, and motels create a detailed portrait of Route 66 at the height of its cultural influence. The solid sterling silver clip is sculpted in the form of a vintage neon motel sign, while the top of the cap displays the iconic Route 66 highway shield in high relief and hand-fired enamel. Additional detailing includes the “End of the Trail” landmark associated with the Santa Monica Pier.

Each pen is handcrafted using traditional vitreous enameling techniques. Ground glass is repeatedly fired onto the sterling silver body at temperatures exceeding 1,400°F, producing exceptional depth, brilliance, and durability. The result is a jewel-like surface designed to retain its color and luster for generations.

Fitted with a rhodium-plated 18-karat gold nib and complemented by sterling silver fittings, the Route 66 is the 43rd collection in the David Oscarson series. Production is limited to just 66 pieces of each color variation, available as either a fountain pen or rollerball, making it an exceptional tribute to one hundred years of American history, craftsmanship, and adventure.
