Montegrappa dove into its archives to inspire its newest pen. The Extra Otto silhouette returns with the distinction of being the first Montegrappa writing instrument ever carved from stone: a deep blue lapis lazuli. The Extra Otto Sapphirus features Egyptian ornamentation as a nod to lapis lazuli's over six thousand year history.
Ancient Egyptians revered lapis lazuli’s magnificent color and shimmering finish. Its supposed healing powers were used to treat everything from insomnia and melancholy to fever and snake bites.
The Extra Otto Sapphirus bears a winged scarab and Eye of Horus—symbols of power and good health—on the cap band. The stone body is diamond-cut into a shell and strengthened with a carbon-fibre core. The golden flakes within lapis lazuli—resulting from high pyrite content—are accentuated by the rose gold nib and rose gold vermeil trims.
Limited to 192 pieces—referencing the 192 known chapters of the Egyptian Book of Death for navigating the transition into the afterlife—the Extra Otto Sapphirus sports an 18K rose gold nib and arrives in a beautiful wooden box with a bottle of ink.
