For over 120 years, Montblanc has stood at the intersection of culture and craftsmanship, transforming artistic vision into objects of lasting significance. The Masters of Art collection continues this tradition, honoring history’s most influential artists through meticulously crafted writing instruments for discerning collectors.
This edition is dedicated to Henri Matisse (1869–1954), a pioneering force in modern art renowned for his bold use of color, fluid forms, and innovative techniques. Developed in collaboration with Maison Matisse, the collection draws inspiration from his revolutionary cut-outs and sculptural approach, translating his artistic language into refined design elements.
The Limited Edition 4810 takes direct inspiration from Blue Nude III (1952), one of Matisse’s most iconic works. The barrel features a striking blue and white lacquer composition that gradually reveals a seated figure when rotated—an homage to his technique of “drawing with scissors.” The overall silhouette reflects the organic, simplified forms found in his sculptures, while the white lacquered clip references the botanical shapes of The Sheaf (1953).
Finished with platinum-coated fittings, the writing instrument is further elevated by a handcrafted rhodium-coated Au 750 solid gold nib, delicately engraved with motifs inspired by Matisse’s lithographs and his interwoven initials “H” and “M.” The cone features a subtle botanical pattern, echoing the natural forms that influenced much of his work. The Montblanc emblem crowns the cap in white precious resin set against blue resin, reinforcing the piece’s distinctive aesthetic.
Limited to 4,810 fountain pens and 4,810 rollerballs—reflecting the height of Mont Blanc in meters—this edition captures the clarity, vitality, and radical simplicity that define Matisse’s enduring artistic legacy.
