The Homo Sapiens Carbon Moiré is the result of years of experimentation aimed toward achieving the perfect union of cutting-edge technology and unparalleled aesthetics.
The use of unique materials has always been the distinctive feature of the Homo Sapiens family. Inspired by this, Visconti's designers embarked on an exhaustive search for advanced materials, particularly drawing inspiration from the craftsmanship of the most prestigious Italian supercars.
“Research is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought.“
-Albert Szent-Gyorgyi
MOIRÉ TEXTURE
After extensive research and experimentation, Visconti has developed the implementation of forged carbon: a composite material of recent conception, made by combining carbon fiber fragments and resin. This characteristic gives the barrel an organic appearance, with the fibers taking on an irregular and dynamic pattern.
However, it is the meticulous process of amalgamating gold leaf within the composite that makes this material aesthetically unparalleled. The golden hue creates unique reflections: the material appears alive, three-dimensional, almost holographic, much like the refined moiré fabrics that lend the collection its name. Enthralled by this play of light, we chose to leave the material exposed without additional surface coatings. This way, when running your fingers over the pen’s surface, you can feel the succession of carbon fibers with their subtle ridges and depressions, resulting in a pleasantly porous and irregular texture.
HI-TECH MATERIALS
The use of forged carbon gives the pen its characteristic lightness. To emphasize this feature, all metal components are made of grade 5 titanium, a special alloy that is twice as light as brass or steel. This alloy undergoes a controlled natural oxidation treatment, allowing our designers to match the color of the gold leaf present in the resin by harnessing the chemical properties of titanium without using paint.
The natural titanium color is visible on the Visconti clip, thanks to a delicate laser engraving that removes the oxidation, revealing the titanium beneath and creating a refined two-tone effect.
To protect the metal components, a very thin layer of transparent nano-ceramic coating is applied, which stabilizes the color over time and preserves the titanium from potential micro-scratches.
The edition is limited to 226 pieces, in tribute to the atomic numbers of the key chemical elements that give the pen its extraordinary lightness: carbon (6) and titanium (22).
Double-Reservoir Power Filler
A vacuum filling system that is easy to use and has considerable benefits. Patented in 1998, this is arguably the most advanced filling system ever developed in fountain pen history. The user is able to fill the pen with the equivalent of 10 cartridges of ink, and thanks to the two reservoirs, prevents ink from leaking during air travel.
18k Gold Nib
Visconti's 18kt gold in-house nib hand-crafted and manufactured in Florence, Italy. Available in EF, F, M, B, and Stub widths.
Hook Safe Lock
This revolutionary closing system is very satisfying to operate and was created to lock the pen body into the cap to prevent the possibility of the pen accidentally unscrewing and leaking inside a pocket or bag.
