All parts of this incredible fountain pen are handmade in the United States of America. The Eucalyptus burl is varies and ranges from astonishingly flawless to rustic and complicated. To mitigate the difficulty of working with such a structurally challenging wood, it is first dehydrated to 0% moisture, then vacuum-impregnated with thermosetting resin before being returned to normal atmospheric pressure, again being allowed to absorb the resin, and finally being heat-cured to a completely set finished.
The wood is completed with a semi-gloss/matte oil finish and the filling mechanism is a Kovacs screw-activated piston in a cellulose acetate reservoir, offering a more environmentally friendly option than acrylic plastic.
This particular model is an early version of the Desiderata Eucalyptus Burl Sobriquet, which still features the ink window above the grip (removed in later models) and the sleek channel clip (to which an end-cap ball was placed in later models).
