Ernest Hemingway’s exploits in Africa remain etched into the folklore of the 20thcentury. His visits to the continent saw him endure illness, plane crashes and premature reports of his death, yet he regarded it as a place of transcendence and redemption. Intricate micro-milling and engraving captures the continent’s allure – and luxury travel’s ultimate adventure.
Montegrappa’s kinship with Ernest Hemingway extends back to 1918, when the young writer’s service with the American Red Cross saw him stationed on the same estate as our historic factory. The final Battle of Monte Grappa proved a formative experience for Hemingway, as it did for Bassano – home to Italy’s first fountain pen makers.
History will forever preserve Hemingway’s bonds with our hometown, just as his integrity and intrepid lifestyle remain enshrined in our spirit.
Honouring Hemingway’s spirit as one of the great Adverturer starts with the Hemingway family to explore the many layers of the legendary writer’s celebrated life.
The Montegrappa Hemingway Adventurer Fountain Pen is a limited edition pen which honours a key chapter of the Nobel Laureate’s life. His accounts of his travels in Africa are the stuff of legend and provided the foundations for modern ideals of safari adventure.
The Adventurer carries forward the proportions and all-metal exterior of the Hemingway Traveller (2017), but has been reengineered to carry Montegrappa’s top-shelf, piston-fill mechanism. It has an all-sterling silver casing and is detailed end-to-end in African iconography, recalling Hemingway’s 1935 non-fiction work, The Green Hills of Africa.
On the cap and barrel segments, they are micro-milled to blend tribal patterns with majestic motifs of African wildlife. Edition numbering elaborates on the format of
earlier releases under the Montegrappa Hemingway imprint.
Only 100 pieces of Montegrappa Hemingway Adventurer Fountain Pen in 18K gold nib and 100 rollerballs are complemented with an additional 200 pieces of flex nib variant of which 100 are made in Fine 14K gold flex nib and 100 of Extra-fine nib.
